About San Sebastián
San Sebastián is called "El Pepino," and any Boricua who's studied at a public university knows the weight of that nickname: the inter-university Justas Atléticas are held here every year, and thousands of students from across the island come up for a week of competitions, music, and partying. It's one of the biggest events in Puerto Rican university culture.
Beyond the Justas, the town holds another tradition: the Festival de la Hamaca every July, where hamaca artisans sell handmade hammocks. The local economy historically ran on coffee and sugarcane; today it's a mix of agriculture, commerce, and a connection point for the northwest region. San Sebastián is a drive-through town for some, a destination for those who get it.

MemoryI did San Sebastián every year for the Justas from 2014 until I graduated. The university of life, of the stadium, and of the street. You don't forget it.
Sandra
Local GemI bought a hammock woven in San Sebastián twelve years ago. It still hangs in my mom's patio. Twelve years without breaking — that's real artisan work.
