About Patillas
Patillas is called "The South's Emerald" for its green — tropical mountains dropping to the Caribbean, short rivers ending in the sea, dense vegetation. The geography is among the island's most distinct: the cordillera comes so close to the coast that in five minutes you go from mountain river to beach.
Charco Azul, a natural pool with waterfall in the Cacao Bajo barrio, is one of the south's most beautiful pools. Lago Patillas, a reservoir surrounded by forest, offers fishing, kayaking, and trails. The coast holds hidden cliff-base beaches — less famous than Maunabo's but equally calm. Patillas is the slow southeast, accessible only to those with time.

MemoryMy dad took me to Charco Azul on Saturdays when I was ten. Cold water, sandwiches on the rock, the forest around. That formula I repeat with my son every month.
Inés
Local GemLago Patillas by kayak early on a Sunday. Three hours, nobody else, herons, fog, the whole lake. Some places are sacred and this is one.
