About Sabana Grande
Sabana Grande sits in southwestern Puerto Rico, between Yauco, San Germán, and Maricao, in a zone between the south coast and the cordillera. The town is famous for El Pozo de la Virgen — site where, according to Catholic tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to three local children in 1953. Since then thousands of pilgrims arrive each year, especially April 25, the anniversary of the first apparition. Beyond pilgrimage, Sabana Grande has a well-preserved colonial plaza, home of the historic Instituto Loaíza Cordero for blind children, and roads climbing to Maricao through coffee landscapes.

Doña Rosa
MemoryMy mother was at El Pozo the day of the apparition in 1953. She was 14. She never spoke of it with big words — just said something changed for her that day. I take my grandchildren every April 25.
